Acid reflux is also known as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Acid reflux happens when acid and other materials in the stomach back flow or reflux into the esophagus. The esophagus is the 10 inch long tube linking the throat and the stomach. In most cases, the reflux or back flow of the materials from the stomach remains in the lower part of the esophagus, resulting in heartburn and nausea. Such action is not only painful to the sufferer but also can cause damage to the esphagus. In some cases, the reflux or back flow of the materials can back up all the way into the mouth. In such cases, the acid will cause a burning sensation in the throat.
The signs or symptoms of acid reflux may include:
Belching
Cough or wheezing
Difficulty swallowing
Heartburn
Involves a burning pain in the chest (under the breastbone)
Increased by bending, stooping, lying down, or eating
More frequent or worse at night
Relieved by antacids

Sore throat
Vomiting blood
