   Home      Libido
Low libido is a common condition affecting many people around the world. Low libido decreases a person's desire for sex and interferes with their ability to perform during sexual intercourse. It can be caused by a variety of factors, both physical and psychological. Physical causes range from low amounts of certain hormones, medical conditions, and the use of some drugs and pharmaceuticals. Psychological factors frequently inhibit sexual desire, including emotional trauma and past abuse. Conflict or confusion over one's sexual orientation can decrease sex drive, as can anger, depression, stress, and conflict in relationships. Often, low libido occurs as a side effect of various medications. If this is the case, sometimes an adjustment or change of medication can help to alleviate the problem. Abuse of certain illegal substances, such as marijuana, heroine, and cocaine, can also inhibit sexual desire, as can abuse of alcohol

Traditional Chinese medicine is not associated with the adverse side effects that are common with prescription drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. The side effects from these drugs may include visual disturbances, heart irregularities and priapism (an erection that lasts for more than four hours).

For centuries Chinese have associated vibrant health and longevity with both abundant kidney Qi and strong libido. In Chinese medicine your kidney Qi and Essence direct your sexual development and keep your libido healthy. Improving the health of your kidneys often means increasing the health of your libido. By strengthening kidney yin, kidney yang, and kidney essence, traditional Chinese medicine can enhance sex drive and performance. The key to increasing sex drive is not just to concentrate on the genital area. Your sexual health is a reflection of your overall wellness and you need to "heal the whole" to increase sex drive. In Chinese medicine, the aim is to treat all the areas that contribute to low libido and these include both the mental and physical symptoms. If you use traditional Chinese medicine to enhance libido, chances are you will gain overall health benefits as well.
